DRAPERS HALL

Drapers hall was an opportunity for us to renovate a beloved building in Coventry. It was an exhibition for either past/present/future or famous art pieces. I chose to design for the future and looked into the simplest form of design, Atoms.

The first room you will walk into is called ATOMS,  this area is inspired by a Max Ernst painting which is very dream and space like, after looking into parallel universes and traveling to one, the first thing that is always mentioned is atoms, Atoms are the basis of all life, they tell us millions of pieces of information about our universe. Here i have created that experience. By standing on the moving platform and looking up into the sky you can see the atoms/crystals moving through the air.

As you leave a plethora of atoms that are swirling through your space you will be lead into a room where suddenly everything will start to disappear from your vision, the further you go into the room the less you will be left with. This space is inspired by the image to the left, where all you can see is basic white shapes. The room will look as if its turning into pixels when suddenly all you are surrounded by is white space and white noise.

As you leave our current world and begin your journey you firstly have to go through the portal. This portal will then lead you into a parallel universe. As you can see the portal contains muted primary colours which swirl together as it transports you to another world.

After making their way through the stair portal and it’s wave of colorful lights, the next room they will enter is ‘ROCKY PATH’ This is a maze room where the audience will have to make their way through the stony structures, It will be dimly lit only showing areas of importance. The structures will appear broken down and crumbling.

The Forest walk room is based on the above max Ernst painting. After making their way through the maze the audience will be greeted with masses of vines and exotic plants. To make the experience more realistic, the lighting I will use in this room will be dim to mimic the low light you find in the midst of a forest. I will also use sounds of wild birds, as there is a bird in the painting I thought this to be fitting!
